Basic Life Support

Adult Basic Life Support (BLS) Course Aims Provide you with sufficient knowledge and skills to be able to recognise and respond to signs of clinical deterioration. Promote awareness and understanding in the needs and care of the deteriorating patient. Provide you with a clear understanding of the legislation and the current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance regarding basic life support. In general, on completion of this Adult Basic Life Support course, the learner will be able to: Identify national guidelines and local resuscitation policies and procedures. Recognise and respond to patients with clinical deterioration or cardiorespiratory arrest, escalating care in accordance with local policy. Initiate an appropriate emergency response, which may include management of choking, and the use of the recovery position, all in accordance with current Resuscitation Council UK guidelines. Describe how you should apply the local Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Policy or anticipatory care decision within a clinical context. To demonstrate and practice on Manikins how to perform CPR and what to do when SU is choking

Medication Awareness

Course Aims •To provide staff with the necessary knowledge to support the use of medication in social care settings •To provide staff with knowledge of how to administer medication safely, record keeping/documentation •Learn the importance of social care staff being aware of different medication types, forms, classifications, use of blister packs/Dosette boxes •To give an overview of types of drugs on the market •To discuss your responsibilities as a carer in the management of medication •Learn about relevant legislation and policies and clients care plans Learning Outcomes •Learners will be expected to be able to identify possible side effects of some medications as per their individual service users •Understand the risks associated with incorrect medication administration and how to report •Be able to explain the ‘7 Right’, explain different administration routes, how to report medication errors and concerns Know their role and responsibilities (described by CQC) Be able to administer Buccal Midazolam as per Seizure Management Plan Know how to read pharmacist’s medication labels, how to deliver, store and dispose medication Follow NICE Guidelines

Moving and Handling

Moving & Handling Level 2 Course Aims To provide a clear understanding of the legislation regarding moving and handling, To help learners understand the risks of poor practice, To provide an awareness of recommended ergonomic techniques to minimise manual handling injuries in practice, and To inform learners how to carry out manual handling tasks safely. Learning Outcomes Be able to recognise manual handling risk factors and how injuries can occur Understand employers and employees responsibilities under relevant national Health & Safety legislation including most recent versions of the Manual Handling Operation Regulations Understand their own responsibilities under local organisational policies for Moving and Handling Know where additional advice and information can be sought relating to Moving and Handling issues Be able to use an ergonomic approach to manual handling and other work tasks leading to improved working posture Understand the principles of good back care to promote general musculoskeletal health Understand the principles of safer handling Know the factors to be included in undertaking a dynamic risk assessment prior to undertaking a moving and handling activity Understand how the organisation uses its risk management processes to inform safe systems of work. Be able to use slings, sliding sheets and the hoist system

AIMS: Raise awareness of mental health and how it can vary. Outline different mental health problems. Discuss how we can support people living with MH problems. Explore how mental health and well-being interact with daily life. Highlight stigma and discrimination, and how to tackle them. Discuss how to have supportive conversations about mental health. Provide sources of support and information. OBJECTIVES What mental health means to you What might contribute to a mental health problem?
